The Ancient Library's resources rely on libraries across the country. The entire project is expected to include over 300,000 ancient document materials (different editions) from before 1949 (approximately over 80 million images), with about 5 billion characters to be entered. It will be implemented in stages. The construction of the "Ancient Library Database" refers to the 12th Five-Year Plan goals of Chinese libraries, aiming to build a large-scale general repository of documents and classics that comprehensively reflects the circulation and preservation status of ancient Chinese documents, achieving one-stop full-text retrieval.

The first phase of the "Ancient Library Database" includes 94,000 ancient books, with 1.2 billion characters. Among them: Classics (12,400 titles), History (34,000 titles), Philosophy (15,600 titles), and Literature (23,300 titles).

Features and advantages of the Ancient Library:

1. One-stop retrieval of ancient book resources, with 94,000 books already included in the first phase. It is currently the "ancient book-type database" with the largest collection of ancient books.

2. In the initial stage, geographical records, genealogies, individual collections, individual biographies, and the Siku series are the main inclusion objects.

3. The intelligent full-text retrieval engine can retrieve regardless of whether readers input simplified, traditional, variant, or taboo characters.

2. Full-Text Retrieval

The Ancient Library's full-text retrieval platform adopts a high-speed text retrieval engine combined with a distributed server cluster, capable of retrieving hundreds of millions of characters in just 1 second. The system supports UNICODE encoding and large character sets, and can display and retrieve more than 70,000 Chinese characters (Win XP operating system requires installation of a large character set). Basically, every character in the book can be searched.
