OpenFront – Open-Source Online Multiplayer RTS Game
OpenFront – Open-Source Online Multiplayer RTS GameIntroduction
What is OpenFront?
OpenFront is a multiplayer real-time strategy game that runs directly in your browser, with gameplay that's somewhat like a battle royale + RTS. You don't need to download anything—just open the webpage and play. The game maps are based on real-world geography; you need to continuously expand your territory, manage your economy and military, ally with or fight against other players, and ultimately unify the world.

🌍 OpenFront Gameplay
Territory Conquest: The core of the game is capturing land. You start from your own territory, send troops outward to attack, and gradually consume others' territories.
Resource Management:
Gold: Used to build structures and troops, mainly generated automatically based on the amount of territory you hold. It can also be earned through port trade and factory trains.
Troops: Used to attack and defend. Attacking consumes troops, while successful defense can preserve a portion of them.
Map Selection: Includes world maps, continental maps (such as Europe, North America, Asia), and random maps. Different maps lead to very different strategies and pacing.
🏗️ Buildings & Military System
You can build different structures to strengthen yourself:
City: Increases your population cap, allowing you to support more troops.
Fortress: Strengthens border defense (marked with checkerboard tiles in-game), making enemies attack you more slowly and suffer heavier losses.
Port: Must be built on water. Unlocks warships and automatically sends merchant ships to trade with other ports, earning gold for both sides.
Factory: Automatically builds railways. Trains passing through periodically give you gold, and higher yields if the railways connect to allies' buildings.
Missile Silo: Unlocks missile attacks.
Anti-Air Tower: Can intercept enemy missiles within a 100-pixel range, with a 7.5-second cooldown.
🚀 Advanced Strategy & Weapons
Navy & Patrol: Once you build warships, you can patrol designated areas, capturing enemy merchant ships, destroying transport ships, and enemy warships.
Weapons of Mass Destruction:
The game features nuclear deterrence—you can research and use:
Atomic Bomb: A small nuclear bomb that destroys territory and structures.
Hydrogen Bomb: A large nuclear bomb.
MIRV: The most powerful missile in the game, splitting into multiple warheads upon detonation, covering a large area.
Railway System: Railways built by factories can connect cities and ports, significantly improving economic returns, and can interconnect with allies' railway networks.
🤝 Diplomacy & Interaction
Diplomacy isn't just for show—you can cooperate or backstab:
Alliance: After allying, you cannot attack each other, can share vision, and send each other gold and troops.
Trade: Ports automatically trade, and you can establish trade relations with neighboring countries. Once you go to war with or attack the other side, trade automatically stops.
Betrayal: You can actively betray an ally. The cost is that trade stops immediately, you receive a 50% defense penalty, and you'll be marked as a "traitor" for the next 30 seconds. It's a high-risk move, but sometimes it can be a game-changer.
🎮 Game Modes
Free-for-All: Everyone fights for themselves; last one standing wins.
Team Mode: Group battles, such as 4 teams of 8, or 7 teams of 6.
Ranked: Features an ELO rating system to measure skill level.
Single-Player Mode: Play against AI.
