Qoder: An AI Agent Coding Tool by Alibaba
Qoder: An AI Agent Coding Tool by AlibabaIntroduction
Qoder is an AI agent coding platform launched by Alibaba. Leveraging AI technology, it helps developers boost programming efficiency and code quality. It offers intelligent code understanding and search, programming assistance, one-click documentation generation, extensions and collaboration features. Qoder supports multi-model coordination and provides intelligent Q&A, intelligent conversation, and Quest modes, meeting various development needs and enabling developers to get started faster and work more efficiently.
Qoder Core Features
Intelligent Code Understanding and Search: Qoder can quickly locate relevant code across multiple files and modules, supporting searches in everyday language or professional terminology. It also automatically analyzes code architecture, identifying potential issues and providing solutions.
Powerful Programming Assistance: Offers intelligent code completion, delivering suitable code suggestions based on the entire project context. It supports side-by-side chat with the code, allowing you to explain code, generate tests, and optimize performance without switching back and forth between windows.
One-Click Documentation Generation: Automatically converts code into easy-to-understand architecture diagrams and user manuals, with full-text search and version comparison support.
Extensions and Collaboration Features: Through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), it seamlessly connects to external tools such as databases, APIs, browsers, and terminals, enabling one-stop development. It supports understanding multiple formats, including screenshots, design drafts, and log files.
Qoder Special Features
Repo Wiki: Qoder can record hidden rules within the codebase, making it easier for AI to automatically add relevant steps in subsequent tasks.
Quest Mode: Supports describing requirements in natural language. The system will guide users to confirm functional details, generate a task specification document, and let the Agent execute it—no coding required from the user.
Project Memory Mechanism: Helps AI retain contextual information and execution preferences during development.
How to Use Qoder
Visit the Official Website: Use a computer browser to open the Qoder official website (https://qoder.com/) and download the corresponding version for your system.
Installation: Qoder currently supports Windows and Mac (Intel chip and Apple silicon versions are both supported). Download the installer, install it, and register an account to sign in.
First Launch: A browser login page will pop up. Sign in with your GitHub / GitLab / Google account, check the repositories you want to authorize, and return to the local IDE.
Let AI Understand the Entire Project: After launch, click "Open Folder" to select your project, and indexing will start automatically.
Use Quest Mode to Delegate Tasks: Click the Qoder icon in the sidebar, select "Quest," describe your task in natural language in the input box, and click "Submit Quest." The background agent will execute asynchronously. Once complete, you can view the diff and merge the PR with one click in the notification center.
Use Memory to Solidify Team Standards: Open the command palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), type "Qoder: Open Memory Rules," and add rules in the opened JSON file.
Qoder Use Cases
Development Task Delegation: In "Quest Mode," developers describe task requirements and specifications, and Qoder's AI agent can automatically complete planning, coding, and testing—ideal for complex project development.
Code Editing and Refactoring: Qoder supports multi-file editing and refactoring through natural language chat, improving efficiency when coordinated changes span multiple files.
Codebase Understanding and Problem Solving: The "Repo Wiki" feature can generate codebase architecture knowledge graphs and API manuals, helping developers quickly understand codebase architecture. It's well-suited for learning open-source projects, taking over legacy projects, interview preparation, code review, and more, while also helping AI generate higher-quality code.
Test Case Generation: Through Inline Chat commands, unit tests can be automatically generated for selected modules, improving test coverage and ensuring software quality.
Code Migration: Launch a Quest with one click, and AI can handle cross-repository dependency upgrades, generate compatibility layers, fix change-related issues, and submit PRs—perfect for large-scale code migration work.
Architecture Optimization: Use the panoramic dependency graph and "wiki-fied" reports to identify architectural issues, refactor according to specifications, remember new architecture principles, and address architecture rot.
Legacy System Maintenance: For undocumented legacy projects, Qoder quickly generates architecture knowledge graphs and API manuals, making it easier for new team members to understand the project and reducing maintenance costs.
Multi-Language Collaborative Development: In projects that include multiple programming languages, it automatically switches to the best model and calls the corresponding tools, ensuring cross-service interface and version synchronization.
Requirements and Code Management: Product managers can paste prototype screenshots and requirements into Quest, and Qoder will automatically generate frontend components, complete routes, and more—enabling bidirectional traceability between requirements and code.
Security Auditing: After integrating relevant tools, every code commit automatically undergoes a security scan. When vulnerabilities are found, patches are applied immediately and related inventories are updated, with compliance rules solidified to prevent recurring issues.
