Core Rules and Map of Generals.io

Resources and Growth

Each turn, your general and each captured city produce 1 troop. All tiles gain 1 troop every 25 turns globally.

Terrain and Tiles

Mountains: impassable and must be routed around.

Cities: neutral cities require troops to capture; once captured, they produce 1 troop per turn and serve as the key to long-term troop replenishment and pushing forward.

Vision and special tiles: mountains allow you to see through distant tiles, transparent tiles are visible at the start of the game, swamps cost troops to traverse, and deserts do not gain troops every 25 turns (settings may vary across different versions or rooms).

Win/Lose Conditions

If your general is captured, you lose; capturing an opponent's general lets you inherit all of their territory and troops, building a snowballing advantage.

Modes and Advanced Features

Battle Modes

FFA: free-for-all, usually 8 players, occasionally opening up to a 12-player large map; 1v1 mode matches opponents of similar rank, emphasizing laning and timing.

Seasons and Ranking

There is a seasonal system, typically with a 1-month cycle. Scores and rankings are reset at the end of each season, with global and regional leaderboards.

Customization and Spectating

You can create custom rooms and maps, using various Modifiers (such as full transparency, general relocation after defeat, etc.) to adjust the game's pace and difficulty. Replays of all matches are public, making it easy to learn and review.

Supporter Perks

You can choose to pay to become a Supporter and enjoy convenience features such as name changes, custom colors, and increased map caps (not mandatory; the base experience is complete).

Generals.io Beginner and Advanced Tips

Development and Expansion

Avoid over-expanding early on, which can cause moves and troop counts to fall out of sync; prioritize building a continuous frontline and supply lines, and establish a troop advantage within 15–25 turns.

Tower/City Trade-offs

Towers can transfer troops, but long-term troop replenishment is less efficient than capturing more cities; prioritize controlling chokepoints and clustering towers in small areas, and ensure flank security and reinforcement speed when capturing distant towers.

Attacking and Timing

Pay attention to the troop count in the top-right corner, and when your total troops rank in the top two, focus on eliminating a weak opponent. If you can quickly defeat an opponent at the start, continue to expand your advantage rather than spreading your troops thin.

Endgame Approach

When troop counts are close, you can use defensive counterattacks, nibbling away at tower clusters (to create a move-count gap and delay their redeployment), striking straight at the heart (against a counter-pushing throne holder), or multi-lane harassment (feints combined with a main push).

Defense and Information

Build a defensive chain to protect your throne area; avoid frequently pulling troops from the throne to prevent revealing your routes; use offense as defense to disrupt the opponent's rhythm; keep several hundred troops on standby around the throne to guard against quick scouting.

Common Mistakes

Scattered troops, blind expansion, passive defense, and reckless multi-lane pushes on unfavorable terrain (such as being surrounded by mountains on all sides); instead, reinforce concentrated advantages and route blockades.

Game registration allows you to choose a username, which cannot contain the special characters <, >, /, \. Once chosen, it cannot be changed unless you are a Supporter. If you forget your username or need to use your account on another computer, you can recover it through your registration email.
