Handou Game Rules

Goal: Guess a four-character phrase within ten attempts.

Feedback mechanism:

Cyan: The character is correct and in the right position.

Orange: The character is correct but in the wrong position.

Gray: The character or pinyin is not in the answer.

Handou Game Features

Educational value: Learn idioms and understand Chinese culture.

Clean interface: Simple design, pleasant to look at.

Hint function: Use hints to find clues when stuck.

How to Play Handou

When you open Handou, you'll see the rule instructions: ten attempts to guess a four-character phrase, and after each guess, the colors of the characters and pinyin will show the difference from the answer, with a new puzzle updated every day at midnight.Click "Start Game" to begin guessing.

Making a Guess

Enter the four-character phrase you want to guess in the input box, then submit. You can rely on your vocabulary or analyze the hints to guess.

Viewing Feedback

After each guess, the system will indicate differences through the colors of each part of the characters and pinyin (character, initial, final, tone):

Character colors:

  • Cyan: The character is in the answer and in the correct position.

  • Orange: The character is in the answer but in the wrong position.

  • Gray: The character is not in the answer.

Pinyin colors (initial, final, tone): Similar to the character judgment, with each part's color displayed separately. For example, if the initial or final is cyan, it might be a homophone but not the character you entered; if the final is orange, it means this final appears in one of the four characters of the answer, but not in the same position.

Using Assistive Features

Hint messages: The game may provide some hints, such as "one thousand four hundred and seven days" or "the answer contains the following sound: b ı ", which you can use to adjust your guessing direction.

Cheat sheet: The game provides a pinyin cheat sheet, including initials (such as b, p, m, f, etc.), finals (such as a, ai, an, etc.), as well as simplified, traditional, color-enhanced, pinyin, zhuyin, double pinyin, symbol tone, numeric tone and other formats. It also has features like disable hints, assisted exclusion, and strict mode to help you analyze your guesses.

Further hints: If you want more hints for the current puzzle, you can check "Further Hints," but there may be usage limits.

Handou Game Follow-up Actions

  • Give up and view answer: You can click "View Answer" at any time to see the correct answer directly.

  • Play again: Whether you guessed correctly or not, you can click "Continue Game" to start a new round.

  • View game data and share

  • Scoreboard: Records the number of games played, wins, win rate, word usage, idiom ratio, average attempts, average time, and other data, though some data may show as invalid values (such as NaN) at the beginning.

  • Sharing: To share your game results, you can choose to share via text or save as an image.

"Handou" not only tests your knowledge of idioms, but also uses the initials, finals, and tones of Chinese characters as hints, making the game more fun and challenging. In addition, the game is developed using technologies such as TypeScript, Vue 3, and Vite, follows the MIT license, and supports open-source community participation.

What is Wordle?

Wordle is a popular online word-guessing game developed by software engineer Josh Wardle. The rules are simple: six attempts to guess a five-letter English word, and after each guess, color hints help narrow down the possibilities:

Green: The letter is correct and in the right position.

Yellow: The letter is correct but in the wrong position.

Gray: The letter is not in the target word.

A new word is updated daily, and all players guess the same one.
