What is NewsNow?

NewsNow is an open-source real-time hot news aggregation ai platform that lets you quickly stay on top of news, technology, and financial developments both in China and around the world. It brings together trending lists from multiple platforms such as Weibo, Zhihu, and Hacker News, making it easy to access information all in one place. Moreover, it can be deployed to Cloudflare Pages and Vercel with a single click, without requiring complex backend setup. It's convenient to use, practical, and a highly efficient information-gathering tool.

NewsNow Features

• News source aggregation: Aggregates news sources from multiple platforms, such as Weibo, Zhihu, Douyin, GitHub, Wall Street Journal, Hacker News, V2EX, IT之家 (ITHome), etc., allowing users to access diverse news and information in one place.

• Custom interest tags: Users can define their own interest tags to create a personalized news feed, focusing only on the news content they care about.

• Algorithmic filtering of viral news: The platform uses algorithms to filter out viral news across the web, ensuring users don't miss major events.

• Real-time updates and caching mechanism: The platform's default cache time is 30 minutes, and logged-in users can force a refresh to get the latest data. It also dynamically adjusts the fetch interval based on the update frequency of each content source (as fast as 2 minutes), ensuring news freshness while conserving resources and preventing IP bans caused by frequent fetching.

• Multi-section display: Divided into three main sections: Following, Hottest, and Real-time. Users can directly use the followed news set up by the author; the Hottest section balances popular news with real-time news, and switching to the Real-time section shows more official-source policy and financial news. If the default settings don't meet your needs, you can check the news sources you want to see in More and combine them into your Following page.

• Elegant interface design: Provides a clean and attractive interface, delivering a pleasant reading experience.

• GitHub login and data sync: Supports users logging in via GitHub and syncing data, making it easy to keep reading state consistent across different devices.

NewsNow Deployment and Usage

Zero-barrier deployment (without login functionality): Simply fork the project to your own GitHub account, then import it into Cloudflare Pages or Vercel and start using it right away.

Full functionality deployment (including GitHub login):

1. Create a GitHub App (no special permissions required).

2. Set the callback URL to your domain.

3. Obtain the Client ID and Secret.

4. Configure environment variables. This project primarily recommends deployment on Cloudflare Pages and Docker; Vercel requires you to set up the database yourself. For other supported databases, check db0 connectors. The Cloudflare D1 database is free to use. Find D1 in the Cloudflare Worker console and manually create a database, then fill in the database_id and database_name into the corresponding fields in wrangler.toml. If the wrangler.toml file doesn't exist, you can rename example.wrangler.toml to wrangler.toml and modify it with your own configuration; it will take effect on the next deployment.

Docker deployment: Recommended for its ease of use. Operate via the SSH command line. First, pull the image:
