FlashVideo: ByteDance's High-Resolution Video Generation Framework
FlashVideo: ByteDance's High-Resolution Video Generation FrameworkIntroduction
FlashVideo is a framework jointly developed by ByteDance and the University of Hong Kong, designed for fast generation of high-resolution videos, particularly suitable for text-to-video generation. The FlashVideo code is open-source and available on GitHub.
FlashVideo Technical Features
Two-stage Framework Design: FlashVideo divides the video generation process into two stages: "low-resolution priority" and "high-resolution enhancement." The first stage uses a 5-billion-parameter low-resolution model (270p) to quickly generate video content that matches the text description, while the second stage performs resolution upscaling and detail optimization, ultimately producing 1080p high-definition video.
Flow Matching Technology: Innovatively uses Flow Matching technology, completing high-resolution detail generation in only 4 steps, significantly faster than traditional methods.
Fast Preview Feature: Supports a fast preview feature, allowing users to obtain preliminary results within 30 seconds before deciding whether to continue generating high-resolution videos.

FlashVideo's technology combines an advanced model architecture with innovative algorithms, and for the first time successfully applies the RetNet architecture to video generation. This greatly improves efficiency and reduces the inference time complexity from O(L^2) to O(L), shortening processing time for sequences of length L.
The framework also introduces a redundant frame interpolation method to optimize video smoothness, further enhancing the quality of generated videos. Comprehensive experiments show that FlashVideo achieves a 9.17x efficiency improvement over traditional autoregressive models, and its inference speed is comparable to that of BERT-like models, providing new possibilities for synthesizing a large number of dynamic and realistic scenes.
FlashVideo Main Advantages:
Generation Speed: 1080p video takes only 102 seconds, 4x faster than traditional methods
Computational Cost: 90% lower memory consumption compared to single-stage models
Generation Quality: Maintains motion coherence through a dynamic temporal module, supporting smooth 24 frames per second
Application Scenarios: Short video creation, film and television pre-visualization, advertising production, and other fields requiring rapid prototyping
FlashVideo Application Scenarios
Currently, FlashVideo is not only used in academic research but also performs excellently in the commercial field, particularly in short video production:
Online Advertising: FlashVideo is widely used in web advertisements, using creative animations and video ads to attract users. For example, a classic case is a Flash ad launched for a brand's product, which effectively conveyed product information through vivid animation effects and storytelling.
Education and Training: Many online education platforms use FlashVideo to create educational courses. By combining animation with video, complex concepts can be explained more vividly. For example, an educational institution used Flash to create a series of animated courses, helping students better understand math and science knowledge.
Corporate Promotion: Companies often create FlashVideo to enhance their brand image during brand promotion. For example, a large tech company showcased its product features and usage scenarios through Flash animation, boosting brand awareness and driving sales.
The FlashVideo code was announced as open-source on February 12, 2025, and is available on GitHub:
