CNKI Academic Translation Assistant is an academic-specific machine translation system launched by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) in 2020. CNKI Academic Translation collects more than 8 million commonly used vocabulary entries, professional terms, idioms and slang in both Chinese and English, as well as over 15 million bilingual example sentences, supporting translation across multiple disciplines. Users simply enter the word or sentence they need to translate, and the corresponding translation result is provided.
CNKI Academic Translation Assistant is built upon CNKI's massive academic bilingual parallel corpus (including academic literature, reference books, subject thesauri, etc.) and CNKI's professional document machine translation technology. It is an online Chinese-English bilingual translation tool specifically designed for C-end users in the academic field.

By constructing a parallel corpus from bilingual texts within massive academic literature, more translation results that closely match academic contexts are delivered to users.

How to Use CNKI Academic Translation Assistant:
Access and Log In to CNKI Academic Translation Assistant
Log in to the CNKI platform using your account (if you have a CNKI account—such as one assigned by a university or research institution, or a personally registered account). CNKI Academic Translation Assistant website: dict.cnki.net
Enter the Content to Be Translated
After clicking to enter the Academic Translation Assistant page, you will see an input box. Enter the word, phrase, or entire paragraph you wish to translate into this input box. Input limits: up to 500 Chinese characters or 1,000 English characters.
Select the Target Language
In the language selection dropdown menu above the input box, choose the target language you wish the source language to be translated into. Currently, only English is supported.
Get the Translation Result
After entering the content and selecting the target language, click the "Translate" button to obtain the translation result. The translation result is displayed in the input box on the right, and previously translated content is retained in the history for easy reference. If you are dissatisfied with certain vocabulary translations, you can subscribe to the Academic Translation membership to unlock more key vocabulary.
You can also use the selection-based translation feature to translate specific terms, and submit corrections for translation results. Points will be awarded after the corrections are approved through system review.
On April 16, 2021, Translation Assistant V2.0 was officially released. Compared to V1.0, Translation Assistant V2.0 represents a major breakthrough, applying CNKI's newly developed professional document translation technology, greatly ensuring translation quality. The launch of Translation Assistant V2.0 marks CNKI's machine translation technology officially advancing from statistical machine translation to neural machine translation.
