Recall AI: Your Computer's Photographic Memory 148

Recall ai, a new feature introduced by Microsoft, equips the Copilot+ PC lineup with a "photographic memory" capability. Recall AI allows users to query files, websites, or emails through voice, using AI to index and search them. Users can articulate their memory of a file in natural language, and Recall AI will record the user's on-screen operations and index them, so that the needed information can be quickly found.

Recall (which Microsoft internally calls AI Explorer) has an exceptionally broad scope, encompassing everything you do in applications, tracking communications in real-time meetings, remembering all the research websites you have visited, and much more. All you need to do is perform a "recall" action, and, much like an artificial intelligence-driven search, it will present a snapshot of that period, providing contextual information for your memory.

Additionally, this technology guarantees that the data will remain locally on the device, will not be uploaded to cloud servers, and will not be used to train AI models with the captured information. Users can also review, edit, and delete all captured content, and browse through a timeline to find the information they need.

The Recall AI feature will be officially released on June 18, 2024.

Recall AI Features:

• Recording User Actions: The Recall feature is capable of recording all operations performed by the user on the computer, including application usage, document editing, web browsing, and more.

• Searching History: Users can search using natural language to retrieve any action they have performed on the device. This means users can easily find their previous work content and data.

• Tracking Real-Time Meetings and Research Websites: Beyond basic operation recording, Recall can also track communications in real-time meetings as well as all research websites the user has visited.

• Screen Snapshots: Recall takes snapshots of the on-screen content, making them searchable through AI.

Recall is not available on all Windows 11 computers; at present, this feature is only supported on Copilot+ PC series machines equipped with specific hardware configurations. You must purchase one of the new "Copilot Plus PCs," which are equipped with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X Elite chip that contains the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) required for Recall to function.
