DemoFusion: Open-Source Free AI Image Repainting ToolIntroduction

DemoFusion, an open-source AI image repainting and enhancement tool, is a super high-resolution image generation and enhancement tool. By using the latest BSR Gan technology, it can increase the resolution of generated images by 4x, 16x, or even higher, while repairing and enhancing the details of the image.

DemoFusion was developed by the Artificial Intelligence research institute at the University of Surrey, allowing users to generate base images using freely available open-source AI models (such as Stable Diffusion) and then upscale them, adding more details and features at higher resolution. Any mid-range gaming PC or Mac M1 provides the necessary computational power.

In order to achieve high-resolution results using ordinary open-source AI tools, the team first generated low-resolution images and then enhanced them. This is not an upscaling method, but rather processes the image in patch form, teasing out more details from the AI model to increase detail and resolution by at least 16x.

DemoFusion Features:

Our DemoFusion framework seamlessly extends open-source GenAI models, employing progressive upscaling, skip residuals, and dilated sampling mechanisms to achieve higher-resolution image generation.

1. High-Resolution Image Generation: DemoFusion focuses on leveraging Latent Diffusion Models (LDMs) to generate higher-resolution images, breaking through the limitations of traditional image generation techniques.

2. Progressive Upsampling: The framework generates clearer and more detailed images by progressively increasing the image resolution. This progressive approach allows finer control over image quality. It gradually improves the clarity of the image, so you can first see a general effect and then gradually become clearer.

3. Skip Residual and Dilated Sampling Mechanism: DemoFusion uses these advanced techniques to improve the local details and global consistency of images, producing more natural and realistic images.

4. Integration with ControlNet: It can be seamlessly integrated into various LDM-based applications, such as combining with ControlNet to achieve controllable high-resolution image generation.

5. Upscaling Real Images: It is also capable of upscaling real images by replacing the output of the initial stage with encoded representations of real images, achieving high-resolution upscaling of images.

6. No Need for Extensive Memory and Tuning: DemoFusion is designed to be both efficient and easy to use, without requiring extensive memory resources or complex tuning processes.

Whether DemoFusion will gain enough traction to compete with giants like OpenAI's DALL-E remains to be seen, but its creation is an important step toward opening up the potential of AI image generation to the public and the broader tech community. It requires no additional training and can be directly applied to existing models, providing a significant boost in resolution.
