Nano Banana 2 Released: What's New?

Nano Banana 2 went live on February 27, 2026, marking a major version iteration of the Nano Banana series. Compared with the first generation, this update focuses its improvements in several key areas:
Better understanding of real-world knowledge
It's connected to Gemini's knowledge base and real-time search, so when generating infographics, landmarks, or any content that needs to be "accurate," the error rate drops noticeably.
Text in images is finally legible
Clarity and readability of text within images have improved significantly. Scenarios that require text — such as marketing posters and UI prototypes — no longer have to worry about everything blurring into an unreadable mess. It also supports in-image translation and localization.
Consistent characters and objects
Within a single creative workflow, you can now keep the appearance of up to 5 characters consistent, and lock in the look of up to 14 objects — making storyboarding and serialized storytelling much easier. This is ideal for projects with continuity needs, such as storyboards or comics.
More flexible aspect ratios and resolutions
Adds ultra-wide ratios such as 4:1, 1:4, 8:1, and 1:8, handling panoramas and long images with ease.
Adds a 512px low-resolution tier for faster response times, suited for scenarios that need quick image generation and heavy iteration.
Optimizations for developers
Inference strength is now adjustable, with Minimal (default) and High/Dynamic options, letting you trade off between speed and quality.
API pricing has been cut in half — a 4K image costs roughly $0.15.
It can return pure image output with no text description, saving tokens and making it suitable for real-time previews in apps.
Deeper integration with the Google ecosystem
It has replaced the old Nano Banana Pro in Gemini, and is being used across products such as Search AI Mode, Lens, Flow (no credits required), and Google Ads.
Now available in 141 countries and regions, with 8 new languages supported
SynthID watermarking and C2PA content credentials are still in place, and the verification feature in the Gemini app has already been used more than 20 million times.
Usage limits
Regular users can generate 100 images per day; Pro or Ultra subscribers get 1,000 images per day.
Overall, this update isn't about "making images look better" — it's about making image generation faster, cheaper, and better aligned with real-world use cases. Google is clearly positioning this as a "configurable rendering engine" rather than just a creative toy.
