Kuaishou launched a text-to-video model called Kling last Thursday, with the short-video platform operator claiming the model can generate "1080p high-definition videos up to two minutes long."

In the demos released by the company, the Sora-like model showcased the ability to create videos based on simple text prompts of a cat driving a car through a busy downtown street. Kuaishou stated that Kling aims to "bring imagination to life." The Douyin competitor also highlighted Kling's ability to produce realistic motion videos, as well as its capability to make people dance based on full-body photos.

According to the official Kuaishou website, the Kling video model was "independently developed" by Kuaishou's LLM team and employs technology similar to Sora. Invitation-based testing is available on Kuaishou's video shooting and editing app, Kuaiying.

The text-to-video feature is Kuaishou's latest AI innovation, following the release of its large language model (LLM) and text-to-image model Kolors in May.

Kuaishou is one of many Chinese tech companies racing to launch Sora challengers. In April, local startup Shengshu Technology, in collaboration with Tsinghua University, unveiled a similar tool called Vidu. Zhipu AI, reportedly one of China's leading generative AI startups, plans to release its counterpart later this year.
