ByteDance Launches 4 New AI Products for Overseas Markets 198

According to Forbes, TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance has quietly launched four new generative artificial intelligence apps for users outside China. These apps, named Cici AI, Coze, ChitChop, and BagelBell, were all launched within the past three months and collectively have millions of downloads.

Cici ai, ChitChop, and Coze are chatbot creation platforms that allow users to build and share their own chatbots. BagelBell generates plotlines and text for fictional stories that change based on reader choices.

ByteDance has not built the underlying large language models that power them; the apps Cici AI, Coze, ChitChop, and BagelBell rely on OpenAI's GPT technology, accessed through a Microsoft Azure license.

ByteDance is not mentioned on these apps' websites or in their terms of service. Three of them are operated by Spring (SG) Pte. The fourth is operated by Poligon Pte., a ByteDance subsidiary that has previously published web novels and video games for ByteDance. According to Google Play Store data, Cici is by far the most popular app, with more than 10 million downloads.

Another ByteDance product, the domestic version of Coze, Coze (扣子), went live on February 1.
