The First Humanoid AI Robot Company: Figure AI
Figure is an artificial intelligence robotics company headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. It is dedicated to building multipurpose humanoid robots. The company has created a humanoid robot with the goal of developing general-purpose humanoid robots capable of working in different environments and handling various tasks, applicable from warehousing to retail, in order to address issues such as labor shortages, undesirable or unsafe work, and to assist global supply chain operations.

Most labor robots are designed based on a single function to perform specific tasks. These designs perform specific tasks well, such as picking up objects and manipulating them, driving them from one place to another, or operating tools. These robots are typically boxy, wheeled, and covered with gripping arms. However, factory floors, warehouses, and businesses are built by humans, and for humans, which means the human form can arguably still be considered the best standard for opening doors, climbing stairs, and using tools.
Figure 01 is the company's autonomous humanoid robot, which was publicly unveiled when the company emerged from stealth mode in March. Although the company has some pre-working models, they are still in the design stage, but the company has produced a large number of renderings of how it works, which offer a stunning near-science-fiction potential for its future vision of robot labor.
The robot itself looks impressive, standing five feet six inches tall, weighing approximately 124 pounds, and walking about 4 feet per second. It will run entirely on electricity for a single run of five hours. Currently, it looks like a person wearing a charcoal-black机车 suit, but without a face—except for a smooth black screen. As a humanoid robot, Figure 01 includes "cutting-edge AI," which should help it complete tasks beyond manufacturing and logistics, and allow it to use human-like dexterity to complete routine procedures.
Figure 01 has undergone alpha prototype construction, integration, and testing over the past 12 months.
Brett Adcock, founder and CEO of Figure, said: "Figure's near-term goal is to deploy humanoid robots into the workforce. We believe the structured, repetitive, and often dangerous tasks in warehouses are a tremendous potential initial application. This round of investment will support the testing of early warehouse solutions and allow us to move and iterate quickly before commercial operations."
The first commercial deployment of the Figure 01 humanoid robot will target the industries with the most severe labor shortages, such as manufacturing, shipping and logistics, warehousing, and retail.
